Business agility

Business agility is the capability of quickly modifying a business system in response to external and internal changes and challenges (e.g. new regulations, competitive changes, etc.).

One important way of achieving agility in a SOA system is by defining a set of services that are widely reusable in different contexts, and by building business applications that leverage those services (see composite applications). This is typically achieved by using business process technologies (see orchestration and Business Process Management) and by relying on shared business rules. These business applications can be easily modified by rearranging the way those basic services are chosen and combined, and by updating the business rules used by the application.
