FIMS NAB TECHNICAL AHG 2010, December 7 Webex notes

Participants: Lewis Kirkaldie, Peter Brightwell, Al Kovalick, John Footen, Dieter Haas, Giorgio Dimino, JP EVain, Richard Harlen, Brad Gilmer, Peter Guglielmino.

Apologies: Toshiaki Kojima

NAB: Barbara Main is discussing with NAB who has a monopoly position (inc. over neighbouring hotels) and practices very expensive prices even for room within the Convention Centre. What will happen if it becomes financially impractical to get some space at NAB? Would there be an other option? Availabilities at the Rennaissance are unknown.

The availability of a fallback would in any case be desirable although heavy in resources. Better rely on limited connectivity e.g. fallback using 3G. Can a virtual demo be sufficient? Where?

Al Kovalick proposed to ask Avid about availabilities... Small room for small demos but better than nothing if ever possible.

Peter Guglielmino stated that running the IBM ESB inside VMWare (or other VM solution) would be possible.

ACTION: Peter to check with the IBM team that virtulizing the ESB is indeed practical and achieveable

No matter what, we are likely to have limited space - if we can get participants to agree that off the shelf IT kit is used for on-premise equipment that runs with standard power reqiurements and no special cooling needs (i.e. workstations and laptops) this would make life a lot easier. This was agreed in princple by Lewis and Al immediately, but Brad is concerned that some participants might not be able to meet this constraint - if so, they may need to pay for their own dedicated power / cooling / space.

ACTION: Lewis to publish the intent of the requirement (and re-circulate updated document containing requirement) that all equipment requires no dedicated cooling and runs from standard 110v US mains (normal office operating environment).

So far, only IBM and Avid have directly responded to Lewis in writing that they have an intent to participate in the technical demo. It was agreed that early next year the list of demo participants would be locked down.

ACTION: Lewis to re-circulate the request for all parties that intend to contribute to a demo need to express their intent at least (and preferrably specificy to some level their involvement) via email direct to Lewis.
